News

At the end of June 2025 club members travelled to HF Monk Coniston in the heart of the Southern Lake District, home to Beatrix Potter and Alfred Wainwright. Our 500 million years of geological processes have produced a physical landscape of mountains and lakes of great scenic beauty. Our walks were at times challenging but we were rewarded by mountain ranges, lakes or tarns, woodlands, pastures and stone walls everywhere. We experienced old copper mines, iconic mountains, Herdwick sheep with black lambs and traditional quaint villages.

On our day off, we took to our cars and local buses  to explore Coniston Village and Coniston Water, Ambleside, Grasmere, Windermere and several gardens like Holehird Garden with its six National Collections and areas for picnics.

Club Holiday 2026 dates 05-12 June Longmynd, Shropshire Hills HF Holidays.

As before, it is an HF holiday offering guided walking with 3 different levels of ability with full board (packed lunch) in comfortable en suite rooms. Please contact Heidi on heidrunpowell@aol.com Tel (01483 727347) to express your interest and for further details

Walk programmes

Please now be thinking about walks from January to March 2026, Dora will be happy to receive your offers.

Please note the reference to the Club’s Health and Safety Policy on the Welcome page.  You should all be aware of and familiar with it and you must observe its recommendations if you are to walk with us. Please also read our  Privacy and Data Protection Policy

All of the relevant authorities are taking action to reduce the cost of their countryside and rights of way activities.  This is obviously very worrying in terms of how quickly our footpath network will deteriorate and the high likelihood that less used paths will become blocked.  We are asked, therefore, to ensure that everyone be extra vigilant in reporting footpath problems so we can monitor the true effects of cutbacks.

This site went live on 1/9/2018.  Thanks to Tye (of aguawebs) who helped us to build  it. If any members have suggestions about the site and, in particular, any items of news or photographs that they would like to see posted here, please let me know.  I can’t promise to fulfill everyone’s desires but I will try.
