PROGRAMME 141 September to December 2020

Please remember that, if you walk with us, you will be subject both to our Health & Safety Policy and to whatever Goverment Covid 19 guidance is in force at the time.

Also, if you are a visitor, please let the walk leader know in advance that you are coming and provide your name and contact details for track and trace purposes.  This information will be discarded after 21 days unless you decide to join.

Sadly, for the moment, given the current Covid related restrictions, we are not offering lifts – even to each other.

Sunday Sep 6

Joan Wrenn Memorial Walk

A 6.5 + 4 mile figure of 8 (ish)

This walk is now closed to non-club members

Both walks start from the free Guildford Park Road car park (GU2 7PA). Lunch pub or picnic.  Morning, sculptures and lake at University Campus then the Arboretum at Onslow, the outskirts of Loseley and the Wey South Path.  In the afternoon, follow we River Wey towards Stoke Lock through Riverside Park and come back on the other side of river  past the Spectrum and over Stoke Park to the start. The a.m. walk starts at 10 a.m, the p.m. walk at 2:15 p.m.

Sunday 13 September

Guildford to Chilworth and return

A 10 mile walk

Meet at the free Guildford Park Road car park (GU2 7PA). Along the River Wey, through the Chantries to St Martha’s and on to Chilworth. Picnic at Chilworth and return via River Wey. Assemble at 9:45 a.m. Walk starts 10 a.m.

Thursday 17 September 

Transported Through Ash 

A 5 mile walk (walkfest)

Meet at the car park in Ash Hill Road, Ash opposite Victoria Hall (GU12 5DN). Mostly flat walk linking the history of transport in the valley. Walk starts at 10 a.m.

Horsley Jubilee Trail 

A 9 mile walk (walkfest)

Meet at St Mary’s Church Car Park, East Horsley (KT24 6AP). For lunch bring a picnic. Walk through open country and farm land.  Leave Guildford 9.20 a.m. Walk starts at 10 a.m.

Dave’s Twin Peaks

An 8 mile hilly circular walk (walkfest)

Meet in the Friday Street woodland car park (RH5 6JR) Walking to Leith Hill (tea) and Holmbury Hill. Lunch -picnic at Holmbury cricket ground. Leave Guildford 9.15 am Walk starts 10 am.

This walk has been posponed due to bad weather.  Sally will run it on Wednesday 7th.  She will be at the start point at 10 a.m on that day for anyone who is interested

Alfold to Loxwood

A 10 mile walk

Meet at Sydney Wood Car Park, Dunsfold Rd, Alfold Crossways GU6 8HU.  Lunch at Onslow Arms, Loxwood or picnic nearby.  Leave Guildford 9.15 a.m. Walk starts at 10 a.m. Varied walk, no hills.

Sunday 11 October

An autumn arboretum amble

A 9 mile walk to Winkworth and back

Meet at Godalming  Central Car Park behind the High Street, nearest post code (council offices) GU7 1HR. This CP is free on Sundays and 5 mins walk from the station. Picnic lunch at Winkworth arboretum, no pub. Leave Guildford 9.15 a.m. Walk starts at 10 a.m. One long uphill stretch near the start then easy walking.

Thursday 15 October

Walking In The Steps Of Pudsey

A 5 mile morning walk

Meet at Fairlands Community Centre free car park (GU3 3NA). Fairlands Estate is off the A323 Aldershot Road.  Easy circular walk through Wood Street Village. Leave Guildford 9:40 a.m. Walk starts at 10 a.m.

Sunday 18 October

Cocking Canter

A 10 mile circular walk

Meet in Cocking Hill car park on the A286 at top of the hill approx 1k south of Cocking (by bus stop 60 and easy to miss). A walk with panoramic views, some small hills, old churches but no pub. From the car park we travel towards hamlets of Bepton and Didling and enjoy SDW i.e. South Downs Way. Leave Guildford 8:45 a.m. Walk starts at 10 a.m..

Sunday 25 October

Up the Mount to Wanborough and back

A    9.5 mile circular walk

Meet at top end of Wodeland Ave GU2 4LD,  just off the A31 Farnham Rd in Guildford by the allotments. Parking is in the designated  bays (unrestricted on Sundays). Start is a 5 to 10 min walk from Guildford bus or train station. Picnic lunch at Wanborough churchyard or Great Barn. Walking on quiet lanes and fields with one steep hill at the start. Walk starts at 10 a.m.

Sunday 1 November

Pewley Downs

A 5 mile walk

Meet at the end of Pewley Hill Guildford by the allotments (GU1 3QA) and park on the street leading to the start of the beauty spot. Walk down towards Chantries wood to reach St Martha’s Hill with wonderful views. Continue north along North Downs Way reaching the outskirts of Merrow Downs and Guildford Golf Course and onto Warren Road, reaching Pewley Downs again back to your cars. Gently undulating.  Walk starts at 10 a.m.

We are sad to say GRC group walks are cancelled from Thursday 5 November until Wednesday 2 December, in accordance with the latest UK government guidelines. 

According to government guidance you may continue to walk outdoors for exercise with the people you live with, your support bubble, or one person from another household.  Walkers in England should however be mindful of different restrictions in other nations and not travel to Scotland and Wales

A Christmas Pie double header

A  9  mile all-day or 5  mile morning walk

Meet at Wood Street Community car park GU3 3DA off Oak Hill adjacent to Wood Street Infant School. A level walk following the Christmas Pie trail with picnic lunch for all-day walkers. Leave Guildford at 9.30 a.m. for a 10 a.m. start.

Effingham Extra

A 6 mile morning walk 

Meet at the Effingham & Leatherhead Rugby Football Club sports field car park in Brown’s Lane, Effingham (or park on the lane outside) (KT24 5ND). A loop via Little Bookham. Walk starts at 10 a.m.

A Shere Saunter

A 6 + 4 mile figure of 8 walk

Park at the Shere sports ground car park. (GU5 9HF) but meet on the bridge. Towards Peaslake a.m. and Gomshall p.m..  Lunch in Shere, pub, café or picnic.  Leave Guildford 9:30 a.m. Walk starts at 10 a.m.

Sunday 27 December

It’s The Pits (disused)

A 7 or 8 mile hilly circular walk depending on the weather

Meet in the Friday Street woodland car park (RH5 6JR)

Walking to Leith Hill (tea) then over the heights above Coldharbour before visiting the Tillingbourne waterfall.

Lunch will be a picnic on route. Leave Guildford 9.15 a.m. Walk Starts 10 a.m.
