Station to Station part 3

An 8.25 mile walk

Meet at East Horsley Station (KT24 6QX). Lunch a picnic on Bookham Common (no pub).  A level walk over commons and through fields. Prearranged lifts leave Guildford at 9:20 a.m. Walk starts at 10 a.m.

Loseley Roundabout (in reverse)

An 8.25 mile circular walk

Meet opposite the Withies Inn, Withies Lane, Compton (GU3 1JA).  A flat walk passing Watts Gallery, alongside the Wey Navigaton and across Loseley Park.  Lunch a picnic by the Navigation.  Prearranged lifts leave Guildford at  9.20 a.m. Walk starts 10 a.m.

Horsley Diamond Jubilee Trail

A 9 mile circular  walk

From Sheepleas car park, behind St Mary’s Church (KT24 6AP) . Farm and wood lands.  Lunch a picnic at Stony Dene Bridge. Prearranged lift leave Guildford at 9:20 p.m.   Walk starts at 10 a.m.

Screw Corner

A 5 + 1 or + 5 mile figure of 8 (ish) walk

Meet in Witley Station car park (GU8 5TX).  Lunch at the White Hart in Witley or picnic nearby. After lunch either an easy unaided 1 mile back to the start or a 5 mile loop via Hydon’s Ball.  Prearranged lifts leave Guildford at 9:15 a.m. Walk starts at 10 a.m.

Whitewater Wander

A 6 + 4 mile figure of 8  walk

Meet at Greywell, parking on the verges near Deptford Bridge near the Fox & Goose (RG29 1BY). Upstream to Whitewater Mill then via Odiham to the Basingstoke Canal. Then woods and the hidden Greywell tunnel. Lunch at the Fox & Pelican or picnic nearby. Prearranged lifts leave Guildford at  9:15 a.m. Walk starts at 10 a.m.

Meet at Bisley Village Hall, School Close, Bisley (GU24 9EG).  Walks around West End and Bisley.  Lunch at the Hen & Chickens or picnic on the village green.  Prearranged lifts leave Guildford at 9:15 a.m.  Walk starts at 10 a.m.

Between Bridges

A 10 mile walk

Meet in Cowey Sale car park (KT12 1BH) on the upstream side of Walton Bridge. Walk to Chertsey Bridge along the Thames and Wey Navigation. Pub or picnic lunch. Prearranged lifts leave Guildford at 9:15 a.m. Walk starts at 10 a.m.

Commons Walk

A 10 mile circular walk

Meet at the parking area by the bridge in Tilford (GU10 2BU).  Headng out over Rushmoor and Thursley Commons. Lunch at Thursley, pub or picnic. Prearranged lifts leave Guildford at  9:15 a.m. Walk starts at 10 a.m.

Sunday 3 March

Wandle Trail part 1

A 10 mile linear walk

Assemble outside Wimbledon station (SW19 7NL); free parking in Woodside (5 minutes away).  Early lunch near Carshalton, pub/picnic/cafe.  Mainly off-road along River Wandle, former power source of industry, now almost an idyllic rural backwater.

Meet at 10 a.m. for tram ride to Wandle Park (cashless via contactless card).

Bookham Martyrs

A 9 mile circular walk

Meet at Bookham station (KT23 3JG).  A flat walk to Bookham and Effingham Commons with woods, meadows and a nature reserve. Lunch at the Black Swan at Martyr’s Green (probably very busy) or picnic nearby. Prearranged lifts leave Guildford at  9:15 a.m. Walk starts at 10 a.m.

Sunday 17 March

Old Winchester Hill

A 10 mile circular walk

Meet in the Old Winchester Hill car park (£3 voluntary charge).  Entering West Meon on the A32, take Station Road, to the left at a bend.  Over a mile, south, up the hill to the c.p. Some South Downs, including Salt Hill.  Lunch by the river at the Izaak Walton pub in East Meon. Prearranged lifts leave Guildford at 9 a.m. Walk starts at 10 a.m.

Access the A32 either via Alton A31 or by A3 Petersfield then A272, to the West Meon pub GU32 1JX by the cross roads (lights) with the A32.  The village is then about a mile south, and Station Road is then left by their Victorian institute. Follow this uphill for a mile or so, to join a road coming up from the right. The South Downs Way is signed here and the c.p. is about 50m further on. Natural England ask for a voluntary £3 parking fee (by mobile) but this does help maintain the Old Winchester Hill fort which we will visit (1st coffee stop)

Meet at  Fairview Farm, Hyde Lane, Churt (GU10 2LR).  Round the Punchbowl, passing the café.  Walk starts at 10 a.m.

A 9.5 mile circular walk

Meet in the public car park at Friday Street (close to RH5 6JR).  Just over a mile past Abinger Hammer on the A25, turn right at a Friday Street sign.  Another mile brings you to a Friday Street sign, hooking sharply back left.  The car park is on the right about a ¼ mile along here.  If you reach the lake you have overshot. Bring a picnic lunch. Prearranged lifts leave Guildford at 9:15 a.m. Walk starts at 10 a.m.

CLOCKS GO FORWARD

Weavers Down

A 9.5 mile circular walk

From the A3 take the B3006 to Selborne. After 800m turn right onto Petersfield Road. After 270m turn right onto Forest road and continue back over the A3 for 1 mile to meet in the car park on the left (GU33 7RB). Heathlands. Lunch at The Deer’s Hut or picnic on the green.  Prearranged lifts leave Guildford at 9:10 a.m. Walk starts at 10 a.m.

A 9 mile circular walk

Meet in Blackheath Village c.p. beyond the defunct Villagers Pub (GU4 8RB). St Martha’s, Chilworth, Albury and lunch in Shere, pub or picnic. Prearranged lifts leave Guildford at 9:30 a.m.  Leader not available for lifts.  Walk starts at 10 a.m.

The Thames To Twickenham

A 10 mile circular walk

Meet in the free Hurst Park car park in Sadlers Ride (near KT8 1ST), off the A3050 at Hampton. To Twickenham Lock and back via Bushey Park.  Flat. Some roadside walking.  Bring £2 for the ferry.  Picnic lunch. No pub but loos en route.  Prearranged lifts leave Guildford at 9:15 a.m. Walk starts at 10 a.m.

Meet at  the Recreation Ground car park in Binstead Village.  Opposite the defunct Cedars pub (GU34 4PB) entrance beside the Thatched Cottage.  (No toilets.) Walk starts at 10 a.m.

Easter Sunday

Reigate Ramble

A 4 + 4 mile figure of 8 walk

Past Buckland on the A25 towards Reigate and turn right down Flanchford Road alongside Reigate Heath, just before the Blackhorse (RH2 9JZ). There is car parking on both sides of the road a couple of hundred yards past the houses. Lunch at the Skimmington Castle pub or picnic nearby.  Prearranged lifts leave Guildford at 9:15 a.m. Walk starts at 10 a.m.

Chiddingfold and Ramsnest

A 7 mile circular walk

Park by the green at Chiddingfold (GU8 4TX).  Wealden walk through fields, woods, and beautiful countryside.  Maybe see bluebells and rhododendrons in Ramster Garden. Lunch at the Mulberry (gastro so probably only for drinks ) or picnic nearby r, if open, use the Tea Room at Ramster.  There is a convenience store in the petrol station at Ramsnest.  Prearranged lifts leave Guildford at 9:15 a.m. Walk starts at 10 a.m.

WISLEY MERRY GO ROUND

A 10 mile circular walk

Meet at Ripley Green recreation area (GU23 6AJ). No pub but refreshments and facilities available at the Boldermere car park, Old Lane, Ockham. Mostly flat, open countryside passing through Pyrford and south Byfleet a.m. and shorter return leg via Wisley airfield. Prearranged lifts leave Guildford at  9:30 a.m. Walk starts at 10 a.m.
